How excited I was to find this knowledgeable and well written book, Never Be Fat Again, on my last trip to the USA. If you have a health issue, no matter what it may be and of course including weight challenges, then this is the book for you. It is easy to read and understand. I defy anyone who completes this 6 week cellular solution to not feel so much better, younger and lighter. In fact, I am so impressed that I recommend this book to my attendees when lecturing in the UK. I also had the added benefit and pleasure of meeting with Michelle King - truly an inspiration to us all and a more genuine and passionate lady you could not wish to meet.

Let me begin by telling a little about myself. I am approaching the end of thirty something. I have been married for eighteen years and have four children. My first three children are currently sixteen, fourteen, and twelve. Then, a couple of years ago my husband and I got a "surprise", our fourth child is just twenty months old. I gained almost fifty pounds when I was pregnant with my youngest. At the end of December, 2007, I heard Michelle Davis give a presentation about fighting fat as a disease based on the science in the book she co-authored, Never Be Fat Again. I was motivated to begin to make lifestyle changes. I decided to make them in conjunction with a 90 day weight loss contest at a local fitness center which began on January 7, 2008. When I weighed in, I weighed exactly one pound more than when I went into labor with my last child. I still looked nine months pregnant because of my weight. I couldn't seem to climb the stairs in my home or walk a couple of blocks to the neighborhood pool without panting and gasping for breath. My knees hurt, which was not a good sign as my mother has had three knee replacements. I had a hard time getting comfortable and going to sleep at night. My size 18 clothes were very tight. I was trying to chase my toddler around and coping badly. I was always tired and sluggish.
Instead of choosing a very restricting diet and overwhelming exercise regime (that my husband recommended) I worked with a trainer from the Fitness center and began by walking and increased my activity levels and endurance as I went along. As Michelle suggested, I completely cut out white flour, corn, saturated fats, and sugar as well as processed products containing any of those ingredients. Although I ate fruit in the morning, the majority of what I ate was vegetables, especially for lunch and the rest of the day. I switched to better quality organic foods I also started walking at least a mile a day. I like walking so it was a good starting point for me. As I continued my morning regime of walking, I developed muscle tone in my legs and the length of my walks grew eventually to five plus miles a day. As my walks increased so did my strides and the time it takes to walk a mile has shortened. It has become an ingrained part of my routine. My children are reaping the rewards of having a mother who is better able to keep up with them and run around and play more with them due to my increased energy.
I will not lie and say that the food changes have been a piece of cake (which I no longer eat). I was extremely encouraged by the fact that I lost twenty-nine pounds in the first forty-five days of my challenge. I remained focused and although the focus was originally on my weigh-in date in April it has gone beyond that date to a long and healthy life that is before me. As I began to develop my muscles and lose fat some of my friends and family began to take notice. A few of them have even joined me in my healthier habits. My husband and children have made some positive changes too. For instance, we all discovered that we prefer whole grain pasta and brown rice to the white stuff we ate before. My grocery shopping for them has become processed as they have cut out most of the sugar snacks and soft drinks. Our family now spends more time at the park, tennis courts, and pool together. Now when we go to the beach we don't just lie or sit down, but we walk the coast and play ball. All of this has helped the kids lose a little "baby fat", feel better, and develop their muscles too. The change that I so needed is wonderful. As I have felt better about myself, I have begun to devote better care to my appearance .My jeans size has gone from eighteen to ten and I have lost 32 pounds. I don't huff and puff anymore and I can walk five miles quickly. With the help that I received, I have learned to make better choices and changes that have helped me feel better and look better. Although I have not lost all of the weight that I plan to lose, I am encouraged by the positive changes I see in myself and my family. For me, the first ninety days were just the beginning.
